Abarth strengthens the Racing side of its organisation with the arrival of Giovanni Bernacchini, to serve as Motor Sports Manager.
"Giovanni Bernacchini's experience," stated Luca Napolitano, Head of Fiat & Abarth Brands, "will help to boost our racing and other activities, with the various private teams that compete in Abarth cars both on the circuits and in rallying. With Bernacchini's arrival and with Fabio Migliavacca, Racing Manager, I would say we have a very well matched team. To conclude, I'd like to underline that to be even closer to our racing customers, this year we've decided to make large increases to the prize money for our Trophies".
Bernacchini will occupy a vital post within Abarth Racing, in view of the high-level international connotations given to the Abarth 124 rally Selenia International Challenge this year, and the brand's participation in the FIA R-GT Cup and the European national championships, in which the Abarth 124 rally will be a key competitor, not just in Italy but also abroad. Alongside these championships, we must not forget the Abarth Selenia Trophy, to be held for the 10th time this season, with the Abarth 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione and Abarth 500 Assetto Corse cars. Mouth-watering prize money is on offer for all trophies. Special focus on Under 18 drivers in the Abarth Selenia Trophy and the F4 powered by Abarth championships in Italy and Germany.
Forty-five years old and an international rally navigator, after a 23-year career as a co-pilot Giovanni Bernacchini holds the record of 132 participations in the World Rally Championship and has competed in many international Rallies; he made his debut as a navigator in the Fiat 500 Trophy in 1995 alongside Italian Under 23 Champion Ussai. He has also raced with Andreucci, Galli, Dallavilla, Pedersoli, Tempestini and Nasser: he has won the Fiat 500 European Trophy twice, 1 WRC-2 World and 4 Fia MERC titles with Nasser Al-Attiyah and 1 WRC-3 World and one Junior World with Tempestini.
Giovanni Bernacchini inherited his passion from his father Arnaldo, official navigator with Fiat - in 1974 he won his first World Championship race partnering Lele Pinto in a Fiat 124 Abarth - and Lancia in the Seventies and Eighties; he raced with drivers such as Munari, Bettega, Pinto, Vudafieri and Zanussi.
Fabio Migliavacca, thirty-nine years old, holder of a degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree from the LUISS, has previously worked for Pininfarina, Audi Sport Italia and Lamborghini; after joining FCA in 2011, he occupied various posts with the Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands before moving to Abarth in 2017.
