The fierce and exciting season of the Abarth 124 rally Selenia International Challenge drivers continues with the cars sporting the scorpion badge competing in 11 national championships, the European Championship and the FIA R-GT World Cup. After scoring the category win in the Barum Czech Rally Zlìn in Czech Republic, Frenchmen Raphael Astier and Frédéric Vauclaire in the Abarth 124 rally of Team Milano Racing have secured the FIA R-GT World Championship with one race still to go.
This weekend, two Abarth 124 rally cars will be engaged in the Ticino Rally, valid for the Swiss Championship. Swiss Beat Wyssen and his daughter Janine in their Zeughaus Garage team car will be on the start line with Italians Gianluca Luchi and Gianluca Marchioni in their Bernini Rally team car. Both drivers have won in the R-GT category in the Swiss championship - Wyssen in Criterium Jurassien and Luchi in the Alba Rally. The Ticino Rally is a single leg event. It will start in Balerna on Saturday September 1 at 8.30 a.m. and end on the same day at 6.30 p.m. in Chiasso, after disputing six special stages all on tarmac.
Another Abarth 124 of the Bernini Rally team will be engaged in Austria in the Wechsellang Rallye with the Italians Andrea Maselli and Camilla Gallese, who in this Championship came first in the R-GT category in the Weiz Rally in July.
The Wechsellang Rallye is divided into two legs. The first start in Friedberg at 12.30 p.m. on Friday, August 31 and end at 9 p.m. on the same day. The second part of the race will start at 8.00 a.m. on Saturday, September 1 and end at 5.45 p.m. It will consist of 16 special stages for a total of 163.52 timed kilometres, 10 of which on dirt.
It will be a challenging weekend for Niccolò Cedrati - clerk from Osimo (AN) by day, at his racing debut - and Cristian Pollini, lawyer from Asciano (SI), who won the 5th edition of Aci Rally Italia Talent in the Over 35 category and whose life-long aspiration of competing as an official driver and co-driver in an Italian Championship Rally is about to come true.
The two-man crew will be competing in the 54th Friuli Venezia Giulia Rally valid for the Italian WRC Championship, in the official Abarth 500 R3T. All expenses are paid and they will be tutored before and during the race by the great Renato Travaglia, many-times Italian and European champion winner who has been on the Aci Rally Italia Talent panel since the first edition.
The rally will consist of eight special stages on tarmac on Friday and Saturday for 120 kilometres out of a total of 400.
